Story Telling Chair
Our story telling sessions can take different forms to suit the school. The complete package would include the construction of a story telling chair in the school from the tree to the finished seat, classes could visit the construction at different times and see how the chair comes together. This can be accompanied with a story telling assembly for whole school to start the day. Where we have made chairs to be left in school these have been very popular with the children and have been well used during lunch and break times.
Schools have used the story telling chair to support topic work in technology focusing on construction and stability, and has been a starting point for children to begin designing and making their own model chairs. At the same time encouraging environmental understanding as we discuss the type of wood used in the different elements and why its used. In addition there is the obvious connection with literacy helping to develop imagination and stimulate story telling.
